Samsung announces several new semiconductor achievements.
Samsung introduces Industry's first 60-Nanometer 8-Gigabit NAND Flash
Memory, which makes it possible to build 16GB flash memory cards. Samsung's 60nm process technology is two thousandths the width of a
piece of human hair, and achieves approximately 30 percent reduction in cell
size over the 70nm 4Gb NAND Flash memory developed last year. The result
is the world's smallest 0.0082㎛2 per bit cell size. The key to development at such high densities and fine circuitry design
is a 3-D cell transistor structure and high-dielectric gate insulating technology
that minimizes the interference level between cells.

When we reported on August 27th that Valve started to pre-load Half-Life 2 over their distribution network steam, I thought the release is maybe days away.
Now it is 3 weeks later and Half-Life 2 is still not released. What is
actually happening is that Half-Life 2 is pre-loaded in phases. The phase
3 was made available on September 10th on the Steam Network. Well, this is really only for very patient people.
On top of that there is a legal battle between Sierra/Valve and
Vivendi Universal going on that could delay the release of Half-Life 2. Gamespot
has an indepth coverage of this situation. On the positive side Valve has
shipped the release canidate of Half-Life 2 last week to Vivendi Universal,
who is publishing the game (see GamesIndustry). Still no release date though. The wait continous.

A team of Computer Science Students at the University of Freiburg in Germany hacked a Robosapien to make it autonomous.
This very cool hack of the Robosapien is a bit cruel. They amputated the head and the arms of the Robosapien.
The
head got replaced with a Pocket PC and a digital camera on top. The arms
got removed because the Robosapien, called NimbRo-RS was competing at the
RoboCup 2004 in walking and balance competitions. The arms of the RoboSapien
are very heavy and make it difficult for the Robosapien to walk straight.
Interesting videos of the Robosapien walking can be found here. The University published the C++ API for the Robosapien Hack. (news via Slashdot)
The standard edition Robosapien sells usually between $89 and $99.
Check the cheapest online store offers. Amazon.com sells the Robosapien now for $89.99.
