Takahide Yoshiike is a Division director of Robotics research in Honda R&D Co., Ltd. He received his master degree at University of Tokyo (Mechano-infomatics) in 1998. He started to work at Honda R&D Co., Ltd. from 1998 and has researched on control of biped robot ASIMO. His interest interests include bipedal locomotion of humanoid and dexterous manipulation. |
We present an avatar robot system Honda has been developing. The feature of the avatar robot is a human-sized robot hand with 11 dofs and 16 joints, which satisfies the delicacy and strength like human hand. To remotely control this hand as desired, we propose a framework of “Shared Autonomy”. High-level judgments are made by a human operator, while low-level tasks are autonomously carried out by the robot, to provide a system with higher operability. Furthermore, for acquiring more advanced tasks with dexterity, we research motion learning technology. Based on the avatar robot system, we are actively working towards its application in various use cases.
